90-707, Brownfields and Economic Revitalization of the Inner City

12 units

Prerequisites: None

Delivery Format: On-Campus

Description:
As defined by the US Environmental Protection Agency, brownfields are abandoned, underutilized or idle industrial properties where real or perceived environmental contamination is impeding the development and future use of the proerty. The issue, therefore, is one of effective land use and revitalization of the inner city. Understanding the development of brownfields and the steps that need to be followed to integrate them back into the urban fabric as useful properties is a complex matter. It involves historical background questions, infrastructure, legal/regulatory matters, environmental sustainability, economic development and financing, land use, and community involvement.
