Information: Co-requisite: Familiarity with Spreadsheets and Word-processors * Co-requisite means students who don't have these skills prior to taking the course will be expected to develop a sufficient level of competence to complete class assignments without in-class instruction.
Description: The purpose of this course is to help students learn to use financial data to evaluate the operating performance and financial positions off or-profit, not-for-profit, and governmental organizations an to use financial data for a few basic management decisions. The majority of the course teaches students how to analyze the financial statements of the three types of organizations using a small set of statistics. Operating performance analysis focuses on how well the organization is matching revenues and expenses or expenditures while financial position analysis focuses on how well positioned the organization is to pay its bills. The course concludes with a segment on modeling how an organization's expenses will vary given changes in operating conditions and how to use financial information to make longer term investment decisions.
