6 units

Prerequisites: None

Delivery Format: On-Campus

Sample Syllabus

Description:
This course will examine two issues: How the news media influence public policy making, and why the news media engage in such influence. The course will examine the mechanisms by which media influence occurs, and consider competing explanations of media behavior. Although this is not a course in public relations, students will leave the course prepared to interact successfully with the news media in their careers. The course requirements are two assigned memos, a media strategy analysis project (each student will conduct an individual project of his or her choosing), and in-class participation.
