Sample SyllabusDescription: This course provides an introduction to and exploration of online and distance learning pedagogy and technologies. Major topics include the theoretical foundation and application of online and distance pedagogical strategies to a variety of educational settings including K-12, higher-education, and corporate environments. Areas of exploration include synchronous and asynchronous technologies such as course managements systems (e.g., Blackboard) for online delivery of course material, online assessment tools to gauge student progress, text-based chat for real-time course discussion, threaded discussions boards and email for asynchronous interaction and discussion, interactive videoconferencing to deliver live lectures, asynchronous online and cd-based courseware, and group tools used for online collaboration and project work. Upon completion of this course, students will be able to identify and utilize appropriate tools and effective teaching strategies based on research-based principles to design and deliver instruction in online and distance learning environments
