Description: This course is designed to guide the student through the theory and application of quality improvement in management. The course provides participants with an understanding of the principles of quality management, as well as with a familiarity with the techniques of implementing quality strategies. Through readings, group discussions and practical exercises, the student will have the opportunity to understand the theoretical foundations of quality improvement, and also to apply those principles to practical issues in institutional and organizational management. Methods for process improvement, group problem solving, and interdisciplinary team management will be the focus of class exercises. Although no prior familiarity with the theory or practice of Quality Management is required as a prerequisite for this course, those students with work experience or have been exposed to quality theory or practice will benefit from the opportunity to place these experiences into an integrated context.
