91-859, Educational Technologies for Managers

6 units

Prerequisites: None

Delivery Format: On-Campus

Description:

The goal is to gather essential know-how about the educational technologies that create learning environments to prepare students for the technological demands of the twenty-first century.  Many of these educational technologies are used for teaching and learning.  There are also critical educational technologies that lie behind the classroom scene, including communication networks, network operations, administrative databases, security systems, and desktop support.

The secondary goal is to develop an understanding of the types of technology decisions that leaders face.  These decisions include what technologies are needed, how much of each technology is needed, which vendor will provide a technology, how to ensure compatibility between technologies, how people will be trained to use a technology, how technology users will be helped to solve problems, what policies will be adopted to guide technology use, how technology will be maintained, and when the technologies will be upgraded or replaced.  Planning and budgeting are a key element in all of these decisions.

The third task goal is to learn effective technology decision-making.  Technology decision-making requires establishing a decision-making process and identifying who to include in the process.  A relevant set of options must be identified.  Information about the advantages and disadvantages of each option must be acquired.  A process for communicating and implementing final decisions must be established.
