There are three Orientations scheduled for students enrolling in the fall semester (August)
- Heinz College Orientation - mandatory
- University-Wide Graduate Orientation - suggested
- International Student Orientation - mandatory for International Students only
Mandatory Heinz College Orientation
All students enrolling in August are required to attend a new student orientation at the Heinz College before the start of classes. Heinz College orientation is a one week long event beginning Monday, August 22, 2011 and finishing on Friday, August 26, 2011. A tentative agenda for the Heinz College new student orientation will be available on this site prior to the start of orientation. (There is no registration as Heinz Orientation is madatory)
There will be important information discussed regarding career services, computing, academic advising, course scheduling, and financial aid. In addition, exemption and placement exams will be conducted during orientation. We are expecting to welcome 400 new Heinz College Students during the week of orientation and we will not be able to schedule "make-up" orientations. Please plan to attend all days of orientation to ensure that you are prepared for the start of classes
University-wide Graduate Student Orientation
University-wide graduate student orientation is a great way to learn about Carnegie Mellon University from a campus-wide perspective and will give you the opportunity to meet students and administrators outside of Heinz College. All graduate students across the CMU campus are welcome to join this orientation to learn more about campus services, health insurance, transportation and shopping. This orientation is planned and presented by the Carnegie Mellon University Student Affairs Office and will cover topics not discussed by the Heinz Orientation. Orientation events will run between Monday, August 15, 2011 - Thursday, August 18, 2011 Please register for University-wide orientation by August 11th
International Student Orientation
International Students are also required to attend a new student orientation given by the Office of International Education prior to the start of their first semester of study. For our fall semester students, OIE's orienation will be held on Tuesday, August 16, 2011. A variety of presentations are scheduled to provide crucial information to international students that are new to our campus. Information sessions will include: housing, immigration, campus services, health insurance, transportation and shopping. OIE International Student Orientation Agenda
