Family & Community Services

The central business district is well serviced by medical facilities, shops and schools. The city’s largest hospital is located within an easy walk of the campus. Also within walking distance are highly regarded government and private primary and secondary schools, some of which offer special programs for children whose first language is not English. Co-located within the Torrens Building are a wide range of non-government organisations providing services for individuals and families.

Welfare and guidance services relevant to overseas and domestic students

Heinz College provides academic and career advising services, and provides referrals for other welfare and guidance services students may need. Students are welcome to consult with the Director of Programs regarding these services.

The programs offered at Heinz are intensive and students are expected to dedicate much of their time towards studies (an average of 12 hours per week for each class taken). Therefore you should seriously consider the demands of the academic workload and family responsibilities. We're happy to provide more information about services, schools, etc. to students with families. Finally, there are a number of requirements which must be met in order to obtain a student visa.

Childcare Facilities

There is a wide range of childcare facilities (including day-care, after-hours and vacation care) within an easy walk of the campus. Most residential areas in and around the city have childcare facilities. Note however that childcare services are quite expensive. It is strongly recommended that prospective students contact the Director of Programs to discuss prior to making any decision.
