Ryan Smalley is an Adjunct Professor of Information Technology and Public Policy at the H. John Heinz III School of Public Policy and Management at Carnegie Mellon University. Ryan received his M.B.A. from Georgetown University’s McDonough School of Business and is an undergraduate of the U.S. Naval Academy at Annapolis, MD. Ryan is a certified IT Infrastructure Library (ITIL®) Expert and Service Manager and a member of the it Service Management Foundation (itSMF). Ryan now serves as Vice President, Strategic Initiatives Office, at PNC Bank.
Previously Ryan worked within IBM’s Global Business Services Technology Strategy division and as a Principal IT Service Manager at Zenetex, LLC. During his tenure Ryan consulted with numerous organizations in the U.S. Intelligence Community including the CIA, NSA, NGA, and DIA. He also assisted with the development of advanced network infrastructure programs for the U.S. Marine Corps and the U.S. Navy. He is a member of the CIO Institute instructor staff sponsored by Carnegie Mellon University.
Ryan spent over ten years as a helicopter pilot in the U.S. Navy and served multiple combat missions in Iraq and counter-narcotics missions in Central and South America. After resigning from the military, Ryan now resides in Pittsburgh, PA, with his wife and three children.
