Capstone Projects

Carnegie Mellon University’s unique course curriculum includes the opportunity for students to undertake applied learning through participation in a Capstone Project. Capstone Projects allow students to advance their skills and gain a better understanding of the practical challenges facing today’s institutions, adding greater depth of knowledge and experience to an already robust degree.

Information Systems Projects
Master of Science in Information Technology (MSIT) students undertake extensive learning and practical experience in the field of information technology and management through Information System Projects providing them with a competitive career advantage. The Information System Project takes students beyond theory into the practical application of skills through the opportunity to work with public and private companies, and government agencies on real-world projects. The goal of these projects is to provide MSIT students with the skills necessary for structuring, managing and carrying out projects within an organisation.

System Synthesis Projects
Master of Science in Public Policy and Mangement (MSPPM) students undertake extensive learning and practical experience in the field of public policy and management through System Synthesis Projects, providing them with a competitive career advantage. The System Synthesis Project takes students beyond theory into the practical application of skills through the opportunity to work with public and private companies, and government agencies on real-world projects. The goal of these projects is to provide MSPPM students with the skills necessary for structuring, managing and carrying out projects within an organisation.

Availability of Students for Capstone Projects
Students undertake projects in their final semester of study in relatively small groups with the guidance of faculty. Each group has an Advisory Board composed of professionals and stakeholders who provide guidance, information and feedback on the project.

• Problem structuring and solving skills
• Project management, teamwork and communication skills
• Organisational experience
