Carnegie Mellon University’s innovative course curriculum includes the opportunity for students to undertake applied learning through an internship placement. Internships are a short-term work placement which allow students to advance their skills and gain a better understanding of the practical challenges facing today’s institutions, adding greater depth of knowledge and experience to an already robust degree.

Intern Qualifications
Students at Carnegie Mellon University – Australia hold undergraduate degrees in a wide range of disciplines and have various levels of work experience. The extensive curriculum completed during the first two semesters of study enhances their knowledge and equips them with tools that they apply to a real world situation during the internship.
The Master of Science in Information Technology (MSIT) curriculum encompasses the latest advances in the field of information technology and information systems and management. Through a blend of technical training and real-world experience, this degree program equips graduates to navigate present and future business landscapes. Through their coursework, students develop databases, write strategic plans, and conduct feasibility studies and financial analysis. They learn to work in large and small groups and to prepare and present recommendations drawn from rigorous analyses. The program gives professionals the necessary technical skills and business acumen to succeed in today’s constantly changing digital world.
The Master of Science in Public Policy and Management MSPPM curriculum encompasses the latest developments in public policy and management. Through training grounded in theory and the practical application of theory, graduates are equipped with the skills to assume positions in policy development, implementation and evaluation, and to manage these functions in government, non-profit organisations, international organisations and the private sector. Through their studies students understand how to analyse data and make effective management decisions, and are able to look beyond traditional paradigms, looking instead to non-tradition path-breaking solutions.
Availability of Interns
Internship placements run for 12 to 14 weeks (full-time) during the following periods: May – August, August – December and February – May.
Internship Requirements
- The internship must last a minimum of 12 weeks, full-time
- The internship must be of significant educational value
- Formal supervision must be provided so that the student’s performance may be assessed
- Internship evaluation form must be completed to enable the university to determine whether this program requirement has been fulfilled
