Overview and General Information
Eligibility Requirements
Students must be in good academic standing and must be making normal progress toward their degree (completing core requirements in the time frame required by the program). Students must be in good financial standing with the university. Students must have a cumulative QPA of 3.3 or higher.
Academic integrity issues (if any) will be taken into consideration by the admissions committee for the exchange program. All exemptions must be pursued at the home campus during orientation (for courses without an exemption exam, exemption by instructor approval must be pursued prior to the semester in which the course is offered). All other decisions requiring Program Director, Associate Dean and/or Committee approval (including but not limited to Pass/No Pass and Audit forms; Independent Study proposals; petitions to exceed max units) are also to be pursued at the student’s home campus.
Students will need to meet with their advisor and program director prior to applying, in order to discuss the feasibility of completing all requirements by the anticipated graduation date. Prior to departure for the exchange, students will need to propose a Plan of Study (list of courses) during the exchange and remaining semesters. The plan of study must be approved by the student’s advisor and program director. Students will meet with their advisor upon return to confirm and adjust the plan of study as needed.
Acceptance into the exchange program will be contingent upon successful completion of the semester in which they are applying.
Due to American visa restrictions, students who are studying in Australia on a student visa are ineligible to go on exchange in their final semester.
MSIT-AU students are required to have a laptop computer meeting minimum requirements (available from Pittsburgh Admissions) when studying in Pittsburgh.
Internships and Post-Graduate Employment
MSIT-AUS and MSPPM-AUS students will not have the same access to the U.S. job market as students who are attending the Pittsburgh campus as their home campus due to student visa restrictions. This limitation pertains to both jobs and internships. Exchange students will not be able to complete an internship in the U.S., as visa regulations state. Students will be required to leave the U.S. within 60 days of the end of the semester. The student must return to their home campus prior to the start of the next semester.
