Release Date: Oct 29, 2009
Heinz College Master of Medical Management student Anil B. Gopinath, MD, was recently named chief medical officer of the Provena United Samaritans Medical Center in Danville, IL.
Gopinath has been affiliated with the Veteran Affairs (VA) Illiana Healthcare System (VAIHCS) since 2002 as a Staff Internist. He has served as the Associate Section Head of Primary Care at VAIHCS for the University of Illinois, College of Medicine Urbana-Champaign from 2002 to 2008, Clinical Assistant Professor-Internal Medicine, and, most recently, the VA Site Program Director of the Internal Medicine Residency Program for the College of Medicine.
Gopinath completed his Internal Medicine residency from St. Joseph Hospital in Chicago and is Board Certified in Internal Medicine. He is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians (FACP) as well as a Fellow of American Institute of Healthcare Quality (FAIHQ). He has attained Board Certification in Healthcare Management from the American College of Healthcare Executives (FACHE) and American College of Physician Executives (CPE) as well as Board Certification in Quality Management, Patient Safety and Risk Management from the American Board of Quality Assurance and Utilization Review (CHCQM).
Gopinath said his Heinz College experience helped him gain a competitive edge in the health care management industry.
"The medical management program is well balanced with a brand name and recognition," he said. "When I met the board members of the hospital prior to my recruitment, I didn’t have to sell Carnegie Melon University."
"(Heinz College) certainly catalyzed my selection and prepared me for the task at hand as a Chief Medical Officer."
