Managing Technology for Public Health
The focus of this course will be on how information technology can be and is used to improve public health and wellbeing. The structure of the course will be as follows: Before each class you will be assigned 2-3 readings on both a policy topic and a related technology topic. For instance, one reading would discuss Medicaid policy and another reading would describe how technology is used to implement automatic Medicaid eligibility determination. Another topic would be the global AIDS epidemic and the related technology and policy mechanisms used to understand and fight the epidemic in the United States, Europe and developing countries. One student will be responsible for leading the discussion by summarizing the readings and also posing questions.
Student evaluation will be based on a final report, participation in class discussions, and 2-3 short analysis assignments during the duration of the course.
