Group-based Trajectory Modeling

Units: 6

A developmental trajectory describes the course of a behavior over age or time. This Ph.D. level research seminar will explore the use of group-based trajectory modeling in studies of developmental processes broadly defined to include but not limited to development of psychopathology, antisocial and prosocial behavior, consumer behavior and the use of technology. After an initial introduction to the statistical theory underlying group-based trajectory modeling, students will learn how to use of a SAS based procedure for estimating such models thru a series of applications exercises. Students will then be expected to apply the method to a topic of their own choice. For this purpose a data set extracted from the 1997 National Longitudinal Survey of Youth will be made available. Alternatively, students may use their own data.
