Data Mining I

Data mining, or intelligent analysis of information stored in data sets, has recently gained a substantial interest among practitioners in a variety of fields and industries. This course will provide the students with understanding of the industry standard data mining methodologies, and with the ability of formulating and solving problems with it. The particular attention will be paid to practical, efficient and statistically sound techniques, capable of providing not only the requested discoveries, but also the estimates of their utility. The lectures will be complemented with hands-on experience of using advanced data mining software to solve realistic problems based on real-world data.
