Building on the fundamentals introduced in Fundraising Basics, this course examines how to make fundraising theory work practically to support development activities in nonprofit arts organizations of various sizes. We will begin with a discussion of the funding landscape, as defined by public agencies, private foundations, corporations, and private gifts. We will, through practical application, understand relationship building as the keystone of any successful fundraising program. We will explore the intersection of grantee/grantor “worlds” and acquire a practical understanding of how to position our “product line” and our fundraising efforts to maximize our returns. We will research, write, and review solicitations for public agencies, private foundations, corporations, and individuals, as well as role-play live “ask” scenarios, evaluate the results, and estimate the likelihood of success.
