Teaching and Administration
Andrew Wasser is an Associate Dean of Information Systems Management at the John Heinz School of Public Policy at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh. He is responsible for three of the highest ranked graduate level programs in applied business/information technologies programs in the world: the Masters of Information Systems Management, the Masters of Science in Information Technology, and the Masters of Science in Information Security Policy and Management.
Dean Wasser teaches classes in Global IT Management and IT Delivery in Complex Organizations to masters’ students and in executive education programs.
Professional Experience
Dean Wasser’s career has centered on applying business technology in large financial service environments. He most recently served as Director of Mellon Financial Corporation’s Project Office, where he and his team achieved CMM Level 3 certification for over 1,000 software professionals. At Mellon, Dean Wasser established an enterprise-wide offshore IT outsourcing program, successfully implementing standard practices for workload selection, vendor management, compliance, and reporting.
From 1995-2000, he served as the Chief Information Officer the Dreyfus Corporation, leading more than 200 technologists at one of the nation’s leading mutual fund and retirement services companies. Throughout his career, he has successfully run metrics, re-engineering, and training programs in banking and investment management organizations. He has served on numerous industry advisory boards and has guest lectured in both academic and industry forums. In addition, Dean Wasser consults on offshore IT outsourcing and IT process maturity as a Principal in CorporatePower, Inc., a New York City-based technology management consulting firm.
Education
Dean Wasser earned an undergraduate degree in Economics from The University of Chicago and a Masters of Science degree is in Industrial Administration from Carnegie Mellon University.
