Professor Callan's principle areas of interest are information filtering, retrieval, analysis, organization, and management; machine learning; data mining in large document collections and high-volume document streams; and information literacy in K-12 educational environments.

Journal of Law and Policy for the Information Society.

Education

Professor Callan received his bachelor's degree in applications of computer science from the University of Connecticut, and his master's degree and Ph.D. from the University of Massachusetts.
