Biography

Professor Marinelli holds three appointments at Carnegie Mellon University besides being a Professor of Drama and Arts Management in the School of Drama. He is Co-Director of the Entertainment Technology Center, a joint initiative between the College of Fine Arts (CFA) and the School of Computer Science. He is also an affiliated faculty member in the Heinz School, teaching in the Master of Arts Management Program, and is an Instructor in the Executive Education program in the Graduate School of Industrial Administration. From 1981 until 1986, Professor Marinelli served as the Assistant Head of Drama, and from 1986 until 1995 he was the Associate Head.

Professor Marinelli is the Editor of the Dramaturgical Sourcebook Series published by Carnegie Mellon University Press. He is a past president of the Theatre Association of Pennsylvania, which honored him with the William T. Gardner Award for Contribution to Theatre in Pennsylvania in 1994. He has served for three years on the Heinz Foundation Small Arts Initiative Panel, was an adjudicator for the American College Theatre Festival, and as a judge for the Civic Light Opera Gene Kelly Awards. Professor Marinelli has been a theatre critic for High Performance magazine, a book reviewer for the Pittsburgh Press, and Managing Editor of the scholarly theatre journal Theatre Three. He also served as a feature reporter for the WQED-FM Sunday Arts Magazine.

Professor Marinelli has a B.A. from the University of Tampa (majoring in Speech and Drama, and Psychology); an M.A. from Duquesne University (with a specialization in Existential-Phenomenological Psychology); and a Ph.D. in theatre, history, literature, and criticism from the University of Pittsburgh. He is also a veteran of the U.S. Air Force Reserve where he earned an Associate Degree in Educational Administration and Methodology from the Community College of the Air Force.
