Professional Experience
Lorna Kearns has taught courses at Carnegie Mellon, both in the Heinz School for Public Policy and Management and in the MISM/MSIT programs, since 1994. Her courses have included Systems Analysis and Design, Database Management, Advanced Database Management, and Data Warehousing. She's worked as instructor, course developer, and administrator of several of the distance education initiatives at Carnegie Mellon.
She has served as faculty advisor for several student capstone projects in the Master of Information Systems Management (MISM) program. Among those projects have been the development of a database and web site for the U.S. National Park Service and the analysis and design of a client tracking system for the Greater Pittsburgh Women's Center and Shelter.
From 1989 to 1993, she served as Director of Computing Services at the University of Pittsburgh's Learning Research and Development Center. Prior to that, she worked for several years as systems analyst at the University of Pittsburgh's Office of the Chancellor.
Community/Public Impact
Ms. Kearns has taught courses and consulted on information systems projects for the Local Government Academy. She is a member of the Association for Computing Machinery and has been a presenter at the association's conference for University and College Computing Services.
She works as a volunteer in the Mt. Lebanon School District and also with the Girl Scouts of Southwestern Pennsylvania. Education Ms. Kearns earned a Bachelor's degree in Linguistics from the University of Pittsburgh in 1978.
Education
She received her Master of Science in Information Science from the University of Pittsburgh in 1986.
