Professional Experience
Mr. Porter is the founder and President of RDP Consulting Services, a provider of human resources management services to clients in both the public and private sectors.
Prior to founding RDP in 1983, Mr. Porter served four years as Vice President of Human Resources for Warner Cable Corp. of Pittsburgh. He has also held management positions with WPXI-TV, Allegheny International Corp. and Westinghouse Electric Corp.
Community/Public Impact
Mr. Porter has worked extensively with western Pennsylvania school districts and the Pittsburgh Branch NAACP on violence-reduction strategies; co-managed the search for the Pittsburgh Public Schools Superintendent of Schools; solicited community input concerning Gov. Ridge's proposed educational standards for Pennsylvania public schools while serving as a consultant to the Allegheny Policy Council; facilitated discussions on collaboration and resource sharing among local community development corporations; designed and managed Community Based Learning Centers in public housing communities; and provided training to the management staffs of organizations including Homewood Community Collaborative, Hill District Community Collaborative, North Hills Affordable Housing and the Fair Housing Partnership of Greater Pittsburgh. Currently Mr. Porter is a board member of the Red Cross of Western PA; Transitional Services, Inc.; African American Chamber of Commerce; Western PA Writing Project and the Erma Thompson Health Center.
Education
Mr. Porter received his Bachelor of Science degree in secondary education with a major in English from Millersville University of Pennsylvania. He was honored as the university's summer commencement speaker in August 1994.
