Biography

Professional Background

Shamena Anwar joined the Heinz School faculty in 2006 as an Assistant Professor of Economics and Public Policy. She received her B.A. in Economics from the University of California, Berkeley in 2000 and her Ph.D. in Economics from Yale University in 2006.
Research

Shamena is a labor economist whose research focuses on testing for racial and gender discrimination and determining why it occurs. Her past research has designed and implemented a test for racial prejudice in motor vehicle searches. She has also used game show data to determine whether people hold disparate views of the skill levels of women, men and racial minorities. Shamena is currently investigating discrimination in health care.
