Computer Cluster Policies
The Computer Clusters are for use by members of the Heinz School community only.
No Eating, Drinking or Smoking
For the protection of the computer equipment, eating, drinking and smoking are strictly prohibited in all computer clusters. Students violating this policy may have their computing privileges revoked.
Unattended Computers
You may leave the computer you are working on for up to 15 minutes. After that, another student may use that computer.
Printing
- Do not print multiple copies on the laser printers. Use the copy machines for multiple copies.
- Print large documents and documents with many graphics when the clusters are not very busy.
- Print only what is necessary.
- Use "Print Preview" before printing. Make sure what you are printing is really what you want to be printed.
- If your print job does not come out, do not resend it. See a UCon who can help identify the problem. Resending your document to the printer will only result in multiple copies when the problem is resolved.
Game Playing
Three games are installed by Computing Services. Playing these games occasionally for a short period of time to relax is understandable and permitted. However, if you are playing a game and others who need to work cannot find a computer, you must let them use your computer.
It is not acceptable to play games that Computing Services did not install, such as Heretic and Doom.
Storing Personal Files
Any personal files stored on the hard drives of the computers may be deleted at any time. If you need to save a file that is too large to fit on a disk or your personal network folder, please contact the Office of Computing Services in room A206.
