Overview
The technology management industry is a competitive, cutting-edge environment which blends many interests and skills. Candidates must demonstrate acumen not only with technology, but also with problem solving, management and finance. These are highly sought after positions which require thorough preparation, both on the part of understanding the industry and organization, as well as yourself. These guides are organized by topics ranging from how to conduct an informational interview, navigate the on-site interview, negotiate the best offer, and information on summer housing. It is a go to site for all areas of professional development.
Search Strategies
Once you have honed your resume to highlight those skills sought after by your employers of choice, it is time to begin applying. Career Services offers multiple opportunities for you to connect with employers. In addition to these opportunities, you are encouraged to also utilize you own personal network.
TartanTRAK
TartanTrak (powered by Symplicity) is Carnegie Mellon's online recruiting system. Students can submit resumes, sign up for interviews and find contact information for thousands of recruiters.
Dice.com
Dice.com is the career hub for tech professionals, with thousands of top jobs from companies like Google, Apple and eBay who are looking for talented people.
Opportunities
Information Sessions
These sessions are provided by employers participating in on-campus recruitment. They are typically open to all students and you can see a list of them in TartanTRAK. By attending information sessions for companies in which you are interested, you will learn about the company culture, recruiting practices and gain valuable insight.
Career Fairs
Throughout the academic year, there are multiple relevant career fairs to attend, both hosted by Carnegie Mellon as well as off-campus. Click here for a complete listing.
Network Events
Multiple opportunities will be provided for you to network with employers and alumni including Network Nights, Tour de Silicon Valley, Colloquiums, Convocations, and Vista Speaker series. For a listing of these events, go to the Events Calendar.
Alumni Database
Both the Heinz College and Carnegie Mellon have alumni databases. Contacting alumni can be very beneficial if used strategically. Your questions must be specific, concise and always polite. Alumni enjoy helping students, but it important to ask for help properly. Your career advisor can assist you with creating an email or review this Success Guide.

Curricular Practical Training (CPT)
You will use CPT, curricular practical training, while on your internship. Guidelines, forms and instructions can be found at the Office of International Education website.
