Computer Clusters

We have five computer clusters in Hamburg Hall. All clusters have Pentium computers with a floppy drive, 17” monitors, CD-ROM and zip drive, and all use the Windows XP operating system. Each computer room has one networked laser printer. The rooms contain the following equipment:

  • Room A100* (The Computer Classroom) - This room has 41 computers. Networked printers for this cluster are in room A104.
  • Room A103* - This room has 14 computers and one networked laser printer.
  • Room A003* (The Quiet Cluster) - This room is a general-purpose cluster containing ten computers and one networked laser printer. We ask all students working in this cluster to be courteous to others in the cluster.
  • Room A001* (The Multimedia Lab) - This room has 13 Pentiums, one Macintosh and one networked laser printer. There is also a scanner in this lab.
  • Room 236 (PhD Cluster) – This room is for the exclusive use of the PhD students. This cluster has 12 Pentiums and one networked laser printer.

*ACCESS: The computer rooms are for members of the Heinz School community only. You need a valid Heinz School domain account in order to logon. Students in programs that require a laptop are not permitted in the clusters.

The clusters are staffed with Cluster Consultants (known as CCons). They can answer basic questions about the software installed in the clusters. They also restock the paper for printers and change the toner in the laser printers.
