What We Do
The International Development Group (IDG) is a graduate student organization comprised of public policy and management students at The H. John III School of Public Policy and Management at Carnegie Mellon University. Members bring a wide variety of skill sets and international experience to the table. Members have worked in fields as diverse as international relations, arts management, real estate, international development, military affairs, and technology consulting. The IDG also leverages the strong quantitative and technology skills that a Carnegie Mellon education affords.
Here are some of the activities that the IDG engages in:
Events
The IDG hosts both educational and social events ranging related to international issues. For instance, the IDG recently partnered with the Diversity Initiative and Gender Action Committee in order to host a multicultural potluck. In the coming months, the IDG will host a movie series, student debates, and faculty discussions.
Careers and Networking
The IDG also provides an outlet for members to pursue their professional interests in international issues. Members communicate with alumni, who provide site visits, teleconferences, and informational interviews to potential employees. The IDG also works to secure internships for those students interested in working for an organization that is internationally-focused.
Community Outreach
The IDG also aims to assist Pittsburgh-based, internationally-focused non-profits by providing technical support and translation services. Currently, the IDG is redesigning the website of the Welcome Center for Immigrants and Internationals and leading a book drive for Project Educate, an organization that sends school supplies to Zambia.
