MAM Curriculum

Our curriculum is grounded in the belief that management functions must support the organization's mission and the needs of its artists and patrons. Because arts managers are required to be versatile, the program offers a comprehensive curriculum that provides the skills you'll need in your first job and twenty years from now.

The curriculum blends the theoretical and the practical.

  • Core courses cover management, technology, financial, quantitative and communication skills within the context of creative enterprises, both non-profit and for-profit.
  • Elective courses allow you to delve more deeply into specific management, technical or arts areas that interest you.
  • Project courses allow you to apply these new skills in problem-solving settings and provide you with experience in working in a team environment.
  • The summer internship will give you the opportunity to apply the management skills you've learned and to gain further professional experience.
  • Although not required, most students choose to pursue an apprenticeship with a local arts organization during the second year of study. These apprenticeships provide both an invaluable practical experience and the beginning of a strong network of professional contacts.
