Master of Arts Management (MAM)

If you have an affinity or passion for the arts, the Master Arts Management (MAM) program offers a rigorous management education that will help you acquire the skills and knowledge needed to be an effective leader in an arts or cultural organization setting.

Sure, you can learn many of these skills on the job, but there are some benefits to obtaining the MAM degree. First, it's an accelerated and intense learning process. In a short period of time, you'll be exposed to a diverse set of strong and proven management principles illustrated by a variety of approaches, all of which are designed to enrich your decision-making and critical thinking skills.

Secondly, you'll not only learn from a world-class faculty, but from your peers too. In the Heinz College environment, you'll be exposed to many points of view about how to solve a problem, approach the issue or embrace the opportunity. Here, you'll build a foundation and establish the context and fundamental skills needed to succeed in an arts management career.

The curriculum, which balances theory and practice, combines coursework from both Heinz College and Carnegie Mellon’s College of Fine Arts. When you graduate you will have acquired the kinds of management skills necessary to help arts-related organizations and institutions thrive in a competitive marketplace.

Our graduates work in many reputable arts organizations,, including Chicago Shakespeare Festival, Brooklyn Academy of Music, Smithsonian Museum, New York Philharmonic, Tennessee Dance Theatre, National Endowment for the Arts and San Francisco Opera.

We offer a 1-year and a 2-year track. Which one is right for you?
