MEIM Curriculum

The MEIM curriculum blends the theoretical and the practical. The degree program offers classroom experiences that provide the theoretical foundations and key management skills and techniques. The program also provides opportunities for the application of these tools in the crucible of today's industry realities through practical experience in both Pittsburgh and Los Angeles. Core courses cover management, technology, financial, quantitative and communication skills within the context of creative enterprises in both the non-profit and for-profit sectors. Case studies, based on issues confronted by actual organizations, serve as the basis for analysis and discussion in many of the courses.

  • Seminars and special presentations are scheduled throughout the first academic year and feature key national and international figures in the arts, entertainment and related policy areas.
  • The capstone project will allow you to test your new skills through the development of a business plan for a creative project that could be your first venture in the industry.
  • Critical to a complete education will be your practicum assignments, both in Pittsburgh and Los Angeles, that will supplement your classroom work and expand your work experience.

MEIM students share core coursework with Master of Arts Management (MAM) students in critical management areas for several important reasons. First and foremost, we believe the fundamental principles and practices of good management within a creative enterprise are the same for the for-profit and non-profit sectors. Secondly, as noted earlier, the barriers dividing for-profit and non-profit creative enterprises are crumbling and your classmates will become a lifelong network of professional contacts.
