MPM Core Courses
All students in the MPM program must complete the following core courses, regardless of the student's area of concentration:
- Organizational Management: Theory and Practice
- Data Analysis for Managers
- Information Systems for Managers
- Economic Principles of Policy Analysis
- Financial Analysis for Managers
- Professional Writing *
- Professional Speaking *
The remaining units of coursework can be completed with electives selected from any graduate-level courses offered in the Heinz School or elsewhere on campus (subject to academic advisor approval). Electives can be chosen to satisfy the requirements of a pre-defined concentration or to complete a self-defined concentration designed in conjunction with an academic advisor.
A student may be granted exemption from a core course (or required concentration course) if she or he can document adequate background in that area. Typically, appropriate documentation includes copies of the related course descriptions, class syllabi and a letter of explanation from the student. A faculty committee rules on such exemptions and has the final decision. Students who are exempted from any core course must substitute the exemption with the equivalent amount of course work in order to fulfill the 144-unit requirement for graduation. Requests for exemption will not be accepted during the semester that a student is planning to graduate.
