Why We Exist

  • In the United States, men receive higher wages, hold more leadership positions in organizations, and own more businesses.
  • Nationally, the gap between women’s and men’s salaries is 25% ; women occupy only 15.7% of key executive positions among Fortune 500 firms, and hold 16.9% of the board seats at fortune 500 companies.
  • A recent study by Guidestar found that female leaders of nonprofits earned only 71.3% of what male leaders earned.
  • When women reach the top of their organizations, they are still paid less than comparable to men.
  • A further challenge is that progress towards closing the wage gap has actually decelerated—the rate at which the wage gap closed in the 1980s was 7 times the rate at which it closed in the 1990s.

Through innovative research, education, and partnerships; we can achieve a more equitable society that inspires women to become strong leaders for stronger communities.
