Killing the Fads: The Start of Evidence-Based Management Design Communities and Communities of Practice

Evidence-based Management (EBMgt) is the use of best available scientific evidence to inform managerial decision making and organizational practice.  It is also a movement paralleling Evidence-based Medicine. The difference of course is that management is not a profession in the same respect as medicine: most managers have no formal education in management.  An array of constituents have become EBMgt designers and end-users. I will tell the story of how it is starting in the UK, US and Canada, as a lesson in diffusion of innovation and a sign of where cutting-edge management practice may be headed.
