Lectures and Presentations
The Heinz School recognizes that learning happens in many different settings, not just in the classroom. We periodically invite a variety of speakers to address current issues of interest to our students. For example, the Heinz School hosted the Pittsburgh Riverlife Task Force's public information and input session.
Other events meant to supplement classroom learning include continuing education workshops for students in mid-career programs, presentations that showcase the work of Systems Synthesis projects, and professional development workshops offered through the Career Services Office.
Convocation is a weekly forum in which Heinz School students have an opportunity to discuss and learn about a variety of issues. Some sessions feature guest speakers who lead organizations, analyze and develop policy, and innovate in non-traditional ways. Other sessions may introduce students to faculty and their research or provide a chance to raise issues with senior administrators. Examples of recent convocation speakers include Chris Heinz, who discussed his perspectives on the 2004 presidential campaign, and David Bornstein, who discussed social entrepreneurs and the power of ideas.
