CIOI - Strategy & Planning

Gaining and sustaining commitment from superiors, peers and senior managers about IT investment decisions, performing IT capital planning and investment analysis, developing business cases for your IT capital expenditures, and understanding what financial numbers are saying, is the focus of this intensive five-day program. This program is divided into to main components: capital planning - guidance and analysis, and financial accounting for CIOs. In the capital planning component, participants will address the challenges of meeting fiscal guidance requirements and developing sound business cases. During the financial accounting component, participants will learn how to analyze financial and economic data, assess its quality and communicate it to others. Participants will also compare, contrast and demonstrate modeling and simulation approaches related to project portfolio analysis, economic-risk analysis, and benefit-cost analysis.

Participants will:

  • Gain an extensive understanding of fiscal guidance requirements.
  • Learn how to formulate a comprehensive business case for their IT capital expenditures.
  • Learn strategies for assessing the value that IT strategies create within an organization.
  • Develop the skills necessary to compare, contrast and demonstrate the use of various financial investment models and methods (CAPM, IRR, NPV, etc.).
  • Discuss and demonstrate methods and models for integrating planning and investment analysis with activity-based costing, risk analysis, etc.
