Educational Leadership Certificate Curriculum
To earn an Educational Leadership Certificate, 72 units are required. Since many students in the program work full-time, they usually enroll in one or two classes per semester enabling them to complete the certificate requirements in three to six semesters.
For your convenience, classes are held in the evening from 5:30 – 8:30 p.m. Monday-Thursday. We also offer summer intensive courses in the daytime to accelerate your learning process. If you work full-time, you can earn the certificate without interrupting your career.
If you complete the certificate program, you'll also be eligible to enhance your credentials with the Pennsylvania Department of Education Principal’s Certification by adding a 180 hour practicum and having at least 5 years of teaching experience.
To enroll, you must hold a master's degree from an accredited post-secondary institution along with foundational course in finances, economics, data analysis, writing and speaking. Previous coursework will be reviewed prior to program acceptance to assure the applicant has the necessary foundation coursework to be successful in the program.
Though the Educational Leadership certificate is a significant credential, it is not a master's degree. However, units earned from the program may be applied toward the completion of the Master of Public Management (MPM) degree at Heinz College.
