MEIM Careers

At Heinz College we treat Career Services as seriously as we do our academics. Our Career Services staff along with the LA based staff will help prepare as you seek employment in one of the most competitive industries in the world.

Careers in screen-based entertainment can be challenging, intense, stimulating and rewarding experiences that require constant growth, vision and discipline.  The MEIM program is committed to helping its students prepare for this exciting environment, not only through the quality and structure of its curriculum, and the involvement and wisdom of its experienced faculty, but through a constant and persistent focus on the personal career development tools that you will need to succeed in this fast-paced business.

 
While you will be busy with classes throughout the first year, you will also have the option to intern at entertainment-related companies in the Pittsburgh area. In addition, Pittsburgh has become an increasingly popular production location for studios and networks and this has meant some great internship opportunities for our MEIM students.

In the second year of the program, key features of the program, and your required internships, will give you unique and invaluable advantages in your entry-level job search:

• Familiarity with “the industry” and the practices, jargon, companies and leaders,
• First-hand experience of how deals get made, talent is represented, TV series are run, games are published, scripts are developed, movies are “green-lit,”
• Networking from the inside – developing relationships with your co-workers and internship supervisors is the key to networking your way to your first job,
• You’ll get to “work the town,” participating in professional association events, including membership in the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences and The Junior Hollywood Radio and Television Society.

On a day-to-day basis, Heinz College’s Career Services team, in concert with the MEIM leadership team, will work closely with you to design and execute a targeted career development plan, based on your interests, goals and abilities.  While the MEIM leadership team will not find you your job, we will work with you to develop the life-long skills you will need to get your break into the business and develop a successful long-term career.
 
We believe that this practical career philosophy is ultimately the most strategic, the most practical, and the most helpful in cultivating your success as an entrepreneurial entertainment industry professional.
