MMM Admissions Requirements

The MMM program is designed exclusively for physicians, and nearly all specialties have been represented since the program's inception in 1998. To apply, you must be a physician (MD or DO) and have a minimum of five years of post-residency professional experience. Although previous management experience is not required, most students have some experience in large health care organizations, group practices, insurance companies, rural clinics and solo practices.

Physicians are required to complete prerequisite courses prior to enrolling in the MMM program. Applicants who have not completed prerequisite coursework at the time of admission must complete all coursework before the first on-site session in September. We suggest that MMM students plan ahead to complete all pre-requisites by July 15 when possible; new MMM students will receive pre-work for the first on-site session in mid-July.

There are three options for completing prerequisite courses:

  • Successful completion of the American Association for Physician Leadership's (formerly ACPE) Master's Program prerequisite coursework(125 hours). We provide a tuition discount for physicians who have completed American Association for Physician Leadership Master's Program prerequisite coursework.

  • Successful completion of the Society of Hospital Medicine's Leadership Academy: Leadership Foundations and Advanced Leadership-Influential Management.

  • Successful completion of two distance courses offered through Heinz College in the summer prior to each on-site session:
    • Introduction to Finance (Financial Statement Analysis)
    • Managing Physician Performance
There is a $6,800 fee for students who need to enroll in these two courses. Courses begin mid-May and run 4 weeks simultaneously through our Blackboard site.

In order to be considered for admission, applicants must submit an online application form, along with the required application materials. Before you start your application, please review the list of the MMM program's Admission Process and Required Application Materials.

Application Deadline

April 1, 2016– Prospective students are encouraged to submit their online application and all required supporting materials as soon as possible (applications are reviewed on a rolling basis), and no later than April 1 of the expected year of enrollment. We will continue to accept applications if space remains in the class after April 1. Details on the application process can be found here.

Our admissions committee cannot begin reviewing your application until we have received all of your application materials. Applicants should expect to receive their admission decision within 4 weeks of the date of application completion.
