Global MSPPM Track

The Global MSPPM Track is a 21-month experience that allows students to access multiple job markets, including the United States, and gain an international perspective in their education. Heinz College has campuses in both Australia (Adelaide, SA) and the United States. The curriculum and quality of instruction at all Heinz College locations reflects the high standards for which Carnegie Mellon University is known. The Global MSPPM track allows our students to leverage the strengths and benefits of both campuses.

Global MSPPM Track Overview

• Year 1 (August - May): study in Adelaide, South Australia, completing most of the core courses required of all MSPPM students.
• Summer (May - August): complete summer internship in Australia or elsewhere globally. Please note, Global MSPPM students will not be able to complete their summer internship in the United States (unless they are a U.S. citizen). Our staff in Adelaide will assist you in identifying and securing an internship that fits your career goals.
• Year 2 (August - May): students will complete the final two semesters of their degree at and graduate from our Pittsburgh campus in the United States with Carnegie Mellon University’s Master of Science in Public Policy and Management degree.
• Graduation (May) and beyond: at the completion of their fourth and final semester, international graduates will be eligible for Optional Practical Training (OPT) in the United States. If you are interested in accessing the American job market, our Office of Career Services in Pittsburgh will provide support and guidance during your second year in the program as you conduct your job search.

Global MSPPM Course Requirements (Year 1)

The MSPPM core curriculum—reviewed, refined and validated by the top professionals in the public policy arena—provides a solid foundation of comprehensive skills you need to lead an organization to success and address critical social issues. Below is a list of required courses you'll need to earn the degree.

• 90-724  Financial Analysis (12 units)
• 91-802  Information Systems for Managers (12 units)
• 91-800  Organizational Management (12 units)
• 90-705  Public Policy Analysis I (12 units)
• 95-760  Decision Making Under Uncertainty (6 units)
• 90-747  Cost Benefit Analysis (6 units)
• 90-717  Strategic Writing Skills (6 units)
• 90-718  Strategic Presentation Skills (6 units)

Course Exemptions

If you have a strong background in any of the core courses, you can receive an exemption either by passing an exemption exam administered by Heinz during your orientation program or through successful completion of comparable coursework during your undergraduate work. Exempting a course doesn't reduce the required number of courses you must complete. However, you can add more elective courses to expand your knowledge base.
