Scholarships & Resources for the Latino Community
At Heinz College, we value the diversity of our student population and strive to provide the resources to help make our communities feel comfortable and at home. Below are some partnerships and organizations our Latin American and Latino communities may find to be useful during their studies here at Carnegie Mellon University.
Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities (HACU)
The Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities (HACU) was established in 1986 with a founding membership of eighteen institutions. Because of HACU's exemplary leadership on behalf of the nation's youngest and fastest-growing population, the Association rapidly grew in numbers and national impact. Today, HACU represents more than 400 colleges and universities committed to Hispanic higher education success in the U.S., Puerto Rico, Latin America, Spain and Portugal. Although HACU's member institutions in the U.S. represent less than 10% of all higher education institutions nationwide, together they are home to more than two-thirds of all Hispanic college students. HACU is the only national educational association that represents Hispanic-Serving Institutions (HSIs).
Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities National Internship Program (HNIP)
Heinz College will award a scholarship to as many as five (5) incoming students admitted and enrolled in Heinz College who have completed the HACU National Internship Program. Each tuition reduction scholarship award will be made by Heinz College at the time of admission (no separate application is necessary), and the student to whom the tuition reduction scholarship has been provided will receive a tuition reduction of at least $6,000 U.S. per semester enrolled. To be considered for a tuition reduction scholarship award, an eligible applicant should indicate his or her involvement with the HNIP on his or her application for admission.
