Mission

This student organization is dedicated to fostering innovation, collaboration, and education in the field of information technology in healthcare (health IT) at Heinz. We will establish a collaborative and networking forum between the students of the Health Care Policy and Management (HCPM) program and the Information Systems Management (MISM) program, and any other students at Heinz interested in health IT. We will also develop partnership with other schools at CMU (e.g. Tepper School of Business) and the Universities of Pittsburgh (e.g. School of Medicine). We will provide student members with professional talks, job opportunities, networking events, and advising in health IT. We will also establish a forum for students to discuss independent projects or entrepreneurial ideas in health IT, as well as hosting case competitions sponsored by the health IT industry.

Function

Education: we aim to educate the members on the current market and the latest trends of health IT to prepare students for success in the field.

  • Monthly Talks: we will host lunch time talks every month by faculty members or working professionals in the field of health IT.
  • Panels: we will have student-, faculty-, and professional-panels to talk about their experiences in health IT.
  • Advising: we will provide members with opportunities to meet and discuss with our advisors at Heinz who have expertise in various fields relating to health IT.

Career Development: in collaboration with Career Services at Heinz, we will help students with future jobs and other career development.

  • Work Opportunities: we will connect students interested in working in the field of health IT with potential employers for jobs and internships.
  • Resume and Interview Workshops: we will help students with interview skills and resume writing.
  • Networking Events: every semester, we will host a networking event with the advisors and professionals in the field of health IT with assistance of career service.

Innovation: we want to promote student-led projects in the field of health IT to foster entrepreneurship, collaboration and innovation at Heinz.

  • Independent Projects: we will develop a channel for faculty members with research projects in health IT to be connected with interested students.
  • Entrepreneurship: we will develop a forum for students with entrepreneurial ideas to promote and discuss their projects as well as assemble project teams.
  • Case Competitions: we will host a health IT competition judged by professionals in the field every year to encourage students to promote creative ideas.
