Heinz Student Wendholt Aids City of Pittsburgh Decision Process

The City of Pittsburgh is facing a severe financial crisis and seeking ways to reduce expenses. The Bureau of Fire accounts for nearly 20 percent of city expenses. With the support of a fellowship she received from Information Week, Amy Wendholt developed a decision support system to help city officials determine the best configuration for fire stations. Amy has discussed her findings with Pittsburgh City Mayor Tom Murphy and has been interviewed on National Public Radio. Her report has been featured in several local newspapers.

Wendholt, a second year student in the MSPPM program, has worked for the Congressional Budget Office and the AEI-Brookings Joint Center for Regulatory Studies. She currently focuses on issues of budgetary and regulatory policy.
