Babcock Briefs Congress

Linda Babcock, James Walton Professor of Economics at the Heinz School, was invited by two members of Congress, Carolyn Maloney (NY) and John Dingell (MI) to talk to members of Congress about her book, Women Don't Ask, on October 16. The purpose of the presentation was to discuss her research findings, describe the government's role in effecting policies that positively impact women and answer to questions.

Congresswoman Maloney and Congressmen Dingell are both known for their strong commitment to women's issues. In January 2002, they released "The Dingell-Maloney Report: A New Look through the Glass Ceiling," which documented a widening wage gap between men and women managers. This report brought greater attention to the pay disparities that women face in the workplace and how those disparities affect their abilities to succeed as wage earners and parents in today's economy.

Professor Babcock specializes in negotiation and dispute resolution. Her research has appeared in the most prestigious economics, industrial relations, and law journals, including the American Economic Review, the Quarterly Journal of Economics, the Journal of Economic Perspectives, Industrial and Labor Relations Review, Industrial Relations, the Journal of Legal Studies, The New York Times, the Economist, the Harvard Business Review, the International Herald Tribune, the Sunday Times of London and the International Review of Law and Economics. She also consults for public sector, not-for-profit, and private sector organizations.
