Daponte on Homefront
Beth Osborne Daponte, a Senior Research Scientist at the Heinz School of Public Policy and Management at Carnegie Mellon University, will appear as the leading national expert on UN sanctions in the new public affairs television show, Homefront. Hosted by Citizens for Independent Public Broadcasting founder Dr. Jerry Starr, this inaugural episode will focus attention on US involvement in Iraq over the decades, by presenting a screening of the documentary Hidden Wars In Iraq.
Following the screening, Dr. Daponte will be joined by a distinguished panel of guest including, Dr. Joe Suyama Bio Chemical Weapons expert, Ms. Laura Hastings expert with the United Nations, Mr. Dave Bobrow National Security expert, and Dr. Chriastina Michelmore scholar of Middle Eastern Studies. The panel will debate Middle Eastern Affairs and National security with a live studio audience at the two-hour taping for the show at 7pm on Tuesday, May 20, in the [Andy] Warhol Museum auditorium. Doors will open at 6:30pm and admission is free.
Dr. Daponte received her Ph.D. from the University of Chicago. Published around the world, including Business Week, the Philadelphia Inquirer, Village Voice, and Boston Globe, Dr. Daponte is widely considered to be the leading authority on estimating casualties from the 1991 Persian Gulf war and on the impact of sanctions on the health of Iraqi civilians.
Homefront will air in prime time twice monthly on PCTV21, with a signal reach of 700,000 Pittsburgh residents. The show will also be provided to Free Speech TV and Deep Dish Network, reaching a national audience.
