Rise of the Creative Class Wins 2003 Political Book Award

The Washington Monthly has awarded its 2003 Political Book Award to Richard Florida's Rise of the Creative Class.

The Rise of the Creative Class: And How It's Transforming Work, Leisure Community and Everyday Life has also been named by named by the Globe and Mail as one of the ten most influential books of the year. Currently in its tenth printing, the national bestseller has stimulated an international debate about the causes and consequences of economic growth.

Florida, the H. John Heinz III Professor of Regional Economic Development at the Heinz School, founder and co-director of the Software Industry Center, and visiting Scholar at the Brookings Institution in Washington, D.C., is regarded as one of the most influential academics on the shift to the new knowledge economy and has spearheaded national debates on industrial competitiveness, high-technology industries, and the globalization of industry. He is co-author of five other books and more than 100 articles in academic journals.
