Heinz School Receives Additional $1.7 Million for Scholarship for Service Program

The National Science Foundation recently awarded $1.7 million to Carnegie Mellon University as supplemental funding for scholarships awarded under the Federal Cyber Service: Scholarship for Service program bringing the total of the grant to over $4 million. The additional $1.7 million will be used to support 20 students beginning in Fall 2003 in the newly created Information Security graduate degrees offered by the Heinz School and the Information Networking Institute at Carnegie Mellon. With these two new degrees - the Master of Science in Information Security Policy and Management (MSISPM) and the Master of Science in Information Security Technology and Management (MSISTM) - Carnegie Mellon offers comprehensive coverage of the policy and technical issues facing the security industry today. Application deadline for both degree programs is March 15, 2003.

Scholarship recipients receive a full tuition scholarship, subsistence money, and an academic stipend of $6000 per semester of full-time study. SFS students are obligated to complete at least 18 months of service to the federal government working in the area of Information Security.
