Students Propose Airport Screening System

Federal Transportation Security Administration officials have praised SWIFT (Short Wait Integrated Flight Travel), a system developed by a group of Heinz School students. The July, 2003 issue of Industrial Engineer reports that the system has the potential to increase efficiency and effectiveness of screening procedures while reducing traveler delays.

According to Craig Martelle, assistant federal security director for screening at the Pittsburgh airport, the SWIFT system is "the best research in this area that's been done in the entire United States."
