Representative Jake Wheatley to Speak

Rep. Jake Wheatley Jr., D-Allegheny, is a socially and politically active resident of Pittsburgh's Hill District. Wheatley received a bachelor's degree in political science from North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University and then went on to receive a master's of public administration from the University of Pittsburgh. He served his country in the United States Marine Corps from 1989 to 1992 and is a combat veteran of Operation Desert Storm. For his military service, Wheatley received the Combat Action Ribbon, National Defense Service Medal, and the Kuwaiti Liberation Medal.

Wheatley worked in government at many levels, including as an executive assistant for community relations for Pittsburgh City Council District 6 and in the City Clerk's office. He worked for numerous community organizations, including H.E.L.P., a program intended to increase minority employment, and Urban Youth Action, which teaches life skills and enriching learning experiences. Most recently, Wheatley served as senior associate for training and education at Coro Center for Civic Leadership.

He is a board member of the Hill House Association, Leadership Pittsburgh and Nego Gato Inc. and is a member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc., Hill Consensus Group, Pittsburgh's Next and Onyx Alliance. Wheatley's legislative priorities include education, workforce development, improving mass transit, and providing affordable and equitable health care.
