CAMT Expands Reach to National Nonprofit Arts Organizations
The Center for Arts Management and Technology (CAMT) has received a $10,000 grant from Verizon Foundation that will benefit hundreds of national nonprofit arts organizations. The award will be used to enhance the level of free technology services that CAMT provides to its clients.
"This grant has allowed us to purchase much needed hardware, ensuring that we maintain the industry standard for hosting that all our arts partners expect and deserve," said Jerry Coltin, executive director of CAMT. "Continuing to provide free high-quality hosting and email services for local organizations like Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre, Society for Contemporary Craft and Afrika Yetu is a big part or our service mission."
The Verizon Foundation's grant to CAMT has far-reaching implications because the center provides assistance to more than 300 arts organizations nationwide. The benefits of technology for effective and efficient arts management are undeniable, and the server expansion project will help support the ever-increasing number of nonprofit organizations that utilize CAMT services.
"It is one of the goals of the Verizon Foundation to assist nonprofits by providing grants to improve their technology capabilities," stated Russell R. Kemerer, assistant vice president of business affairs for Verizon-Pennsylvania. "By partnering with Carnegie Mellon and its Center for Arts Management and Technology, we will have taken an important step in leveraging these dollars to reach more institutions."
In addition to providing free Web site hosting and email support to more than 300 arts organizations, CAMT also offers dynamic Web site and database development. The center has created Web-based applications for many high-profile arts institutions, including the New York Foundation for the Arts and the National Association of State Arts Agencies.
Since its inception in 1996 as an applied research center in the Institute for the Management of Creative Enterprises at Carnegie Mellon, the Center for Arts Management and Technology has quickly established itself as a vital resource for arts entities. CAMT investigates existing and emerging information and communication technology and uses its findings to develop practical applications for arts organizations nationwide.
The Institute for the Management of Creative Enterprises at Carnegie Mellon is a shared research center through the H. John Heinz III School of Public Policy and Management and the College of Fine Arts.
