Politics and Gender Awareness Clubs Announce Contest Winners

The Heinz School student run organizations are pleased to announce winners of their first annual contests.

The Politics Club Debate Tournament was held on Friday, April 22. The topic was the privatization of social security, and the winners were: First Place: Debasish Mishra, MSPPM '05 and Second Place: Caroline Godkin, MSPPM '06. The Politics Club would like to thank Professors Ed Barr, Pat Larkey, and Pam Lewis for serving as judges.

The winners of the GAAP Gender and Policy Paper Contest were also announced on April 22nd. First place was awarded to Mary Hull Caballero, MSPPM 2006, for her paper entitled "Social Security Reform: How will women fare if private investment accounts are in the mix?" Second place was awarded to Emily Eelman, MSPPM 2005, for her paper, "Child Care Subsidies in the Context of Welfare Reform: Are low-income women better off?" These papers will be published in the Fall 2005 issue of the Heinz School Review.
